A multidisciplinary university in the heart of Hainaut

The Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France (UPHF), born from the former Université de Valenciennes et du Hainaut-Cambrésis, is a public institution based mainly on the campus du Mont Houy, in Valenciennes, with sites in Cambrai, Maubeuge and Valenciennes centre.

Its identity is strongly marked by science, engineering and transport (the INSA Hauts-de-France is associated with it), but the university also covers literature, languages, humanities, law, economics-management and the arts.

Arts at UPHF

Art students there follow a licence Arts, taught within the department dedicated to literature, languages, arts and humanities. The program combines practice with theoretical teaching: art history, aesthetics, image and performance analysis, visual and media culture. As in any university licence, the emphasis is on methodology, writing and research, more than on studio production alone — a different profile from that of an art school offering a DNA/DNSEP.
