An Act of Attention

Seven photographers from the emerging French and Swedish scenes took part in a workshop with Sophie Ristelhueber, laureate of the prix Hasselblad 2025, before being brought together in this exhibition space. Here, fragments of the world are shared and put into dialogue. The exhibition brings together seven contemporary artists: Marguerite Bornhauser (France), Theo Elias (Sweden), Tom Hallgren (Sweden), Salad Hilowle (Sweden), Massao Mascaro (France), Iris Millot (France) and Ela Polkowska (Sweden). Coming from varied contexts and backgrounds, they share a common desire: to reveal something authentic, rooted in reality – an experience, a presence, a fragment of the observed world. Their practices, multiple in nature, explore the potentialities of the photographic medium with particular attention to the materiality of the image, while opening, for some, toward expanded forms close to installation or sculpture. Each one, through their own visual language, turns their gaze toward human realities, whether intimate or collective. Together, their works form a space of resonances where narratives intersect, respond to one another and are enriched. Beyond the encounter of the works within the exhibition space, the project places essential importance on exchange between the artists. Gathered for four days at the Institut suédois, they had previously taken part in a workshop conceived as a research laboratory, led by the French photographer Sophie Ristelhueber, laureate of the prix Hasselblad 2025. This time of collective work and reflection opens a space for experimentation where practices confront, transform and renew one another. Thus, the exhibition is as much concerned with showing as with activating: it brings forth a network of relationships woven from inspiration, collaboration and transmission.
