Fondation Taylor

This exhibition brings together the nature-inspired sculptures of Denise Brimson, the engravings of Hélène Bascoul, between shadow and light, as well as the monumental paintings of Pierre Laigret imbued with a vibrant energy. Hélène Bascoul (engraving) Hélène Bascoul obtained in 1993 a licence in Arts Plastiques from the Université Paris Panthéon-Sorbonne. Alongside her work as an engraver, she leads workshops for different audiences (teenagers, people with disabilities, prisoners, vulnerable populations…). She was awarded a prix Taylor de gravure in 2024, given at the Salon d'Automne. Working with etching and aquatint on copper, Hélène Bascoul's engravings are a constant interplay between shadow and light, presence and absence. In them, she depicts inhabited places, faces, emotions, intimacies. Over the years, the engraver has made everyday life her main source of inspiration, which she portrays with nuance, contrast and poetry. Pierre Laigret (painting) Pierre Laigret began his training at the École de Beaux-Arts d'Orléans. He then honed his skills in engraving and fresco techniques. Since the 1980s, his works have been regularly presented in exhibitions in Brittany, in Paris and throughout France. In 2021, he was awarded the prix de peinture Fernand Cormon from the Fondation Taylor. In his very large-format works painted in fresco, Pierre Laigret passionately rewrites the great narratives of our history, whether mythical, religious or secular. He draws on a color palette of muted reds, blues, and grayish white, to create paintings imbued with vitality and energy. Denise Brimson (sculpture) Originally from La Réunion, Denise Brimson took drawing classes at the Hertfordshire College of Art in the United Kingdom, then joined the Ateliers des Beaux-Arts de la Celle-Saint-Cloud, directed by Jacqueline Georges Deyme and Jean-Marc Lange, where she trained in sculpture. Since 1994, she has exhibited her works in France and abroad, and takes part every year in the major Parisian salons. Denise Brimson works on the interaction between species, the plant world and the animal world. Her sculptures with voluptuous forms evoke at times fruits, at times feminine silhouettes, or both at once. Poetry, irony, tenderness—everything in her works celebrates life.
