Concours photographique et aménagement des territoires
Bibliothèque historique de la Ville de Paris (BHVP)

As part of the lecture series accompanying the exhibition C'était Paris en 1970, we welcome Raphaële Bertho, Maîtresse de conférences at the IUT de Tours. Lecture: A la croisée des regards : le concours photographique comme dispositif d'aménagement des territoires This lecture proposes to examine the photographic competition as a recurring device for producing images of territories. Since the 19th century, these calls for participation have mobilized "amateurs" whose category, far from being homogeneous, brings together professionals working outside of commission as well as members of photo clubs or occasional practitioners. By orchestrating this diversity of positions and skills, the competition does not merely collect images: it contributes to the emergence of representations of territories, at the crossroads of political perspectives and vernacular experience. RESERVATIONS OPEN ON AUGUST 16, 2026
