An exhibition centered on the daily life of Auguste Comte in his apartment on rue Monsieur-le-Prince (Paris 6e), exploring rituals of life, work, and various forms of sociability. Exhibition "Comte: la vie rue Monsieur-le-Prince" at the Maison d'Auguste Comte Auguste Comte lived his entire life in Paris from his arrival in 1814 at the École polytechnique. He occupied thirteen residences in the capital, but only one would forever remain attached to his name: his apartment at 10, rue Monsieur-le-Prince. Comte's permanent settling in this student quarter, in the vicinity of the Sorbonne and the École polytechnique, seems perfectly logical for a man whose vocation was above all teaching. It was the home of a man with few possessions who nevertheless insisted on continuing his intellectual and devotional activity in a familiar environment. Comte always claimed to want to live on material subsistence limited to food, clothing, the wages of his servant, Sophie Bliaux, and his rent. He adopted an ascetic way of life, reserving his energy for the elaboration of his work, and always observed an exemplary regularity in everything he did: the use of his days and hours was precisely fixed, and he often declared that he followed a strict "mental hygiene." While a few outings to the theater, a few walks, and a few dinners at restaurants sometimes broke the monotony of his monastic lifestyle, Comte remained most of the time in his apartment, which was first and foremost his workplace. But this apartment, at the moment when Comte met the great love of his life, Clotilde de Vaux, and especially after her tragic death, took on an entirely different dimension, becoming the "holy dwelling" or the "sacred apartment" in which the great philosophical evolutions of Comte would take place. In the salon, the sacraments of his brand-new "religion of Humanity" were administered, and the Société positiviste, created in 1848, met in the study… This exhibition invites you to immerse yourself in the intimacy and daily life of Auguste Comte. You are cordially invited to the discovery day of this new exhibition, on Wednesday, April 29: admission will be free all day from 10am to 12pm and from 2pm to 5pm. It will be followed, at 5:30pm, by a walk through the quartier latin in the footsteps of Auguste Comte, and a drinks reception at the Maison d'Auguste Comte around 7pm.
