Galerie 9e art invites you to discover the works from Guillaume Sorel's latest graphic novel and to let yourself be carried away by his vibrant line and intense colours! How can one evoke a feeling of fear in comics? How can a sense of dread be built through this narrative art form? Through the pages of Deryn Du, Guillaume Sorel offers answers to these questions. In the album Deryn Du, Guillaume Sorel explores the strange events affecting a village in Pays de Galles. Far from the grey English moors of 19th-century gothic novels, here the landscape is bright and green. The tension of the story builds with each day as the hero seeks to unravel the horrors that occurred during the night. To guide the reader through the story's sustained rhythm, Guillaume Sorel constantly renews the composition of his pages: he moves from large contemplative panels to successions of small panels, punctuating the characters' movements and emotions. Guillaume Sorel thus reveals a compositional approach inspired by cinema, in service of the narrative and to keep the reader on edge. An avid cinephile, Guillaume Sorel has also created a series of illustrations paying homage to the work of David Lynch, some originals of which he will present on the occasion of this exhibition. Closing event in the presence of the artist on Saturday, September 12th from 5pm. ABOUT GUILLAUME SOREL Guillaume Sorel, born in Cherbourg, quickly discovered the world of comics. His attraction to drawing led him to pursue a BEP in civil engineering, before entering the école d'Arts Appliqués de Lyon and then the Beaux-Arts de Paris. He created his first professional illustrations for role-playing game companies and signed his first cover for Presse Pocket in 1991. That same year he made his debut in the world of comics with L'Ile des Morts and with series such as Mens Magna or Typhaon. Passionate about literature, in the 2010s he would adapt Le Horla and also Macbeth Roi d'Ecosse. Deryn Du is his latest album to date, published by Dupuis. He is currently working on a new project adapting the novel Malpertuis.
