Exposition Portraits de France
Maison de la Vie Associative et Citoyenne du 12e arrondissement

The exhibition offers a mirror of the diversity that makes up France and of the personalities from diverse and varied backgrounds who have marked its history and forged its values: those from the Outre-mer and from immigration. For a long time, the history of France forgot certain figures who came from diverse and distant horizons. This exhibition, designed by the Muséum national d’histoire naturelle and the Groupe de recherche ACHAC, proposes a new approach: a chronicle of the history of France that is more open to the world, to those from the Outre-mer or from immigration. Presented today by SOS Racisme, this exhibition echoes the values and the struggles championed by the association: far from identity-based withdrawal, it instead highlights the portraits of those who make up the richness of France and its history. Far from the stench of hatred, racism, antisemitism and discrimination, the exhibition invites us to place on equal footing these personalities who have contributed to forging the strong values of our Republic: liberté, égalité, fraternité. Against discrimination based on origin, the exhibition trail invites each person to project themselves into this shared history through a selection of 14 panels, traversing the eras up to today.
