Lafayette Anticipations

On the top floor of the Foundation, Lafayette Anticipations presents Vivresse, the first institutional exhibition in France devoted to the artist Hélène Fauquet. Vivresse - a contraction of vie and ivresse - invites us to discover a state in which vital force and desire become one. Hélène Fauquet's singular work illustrates a tension between ornamental forms and a conceptual dimension bordering on surrealism. Her recent work explores the themes of ornament and art, nature and artifice, as well as history and the present. The shell has taken the measure of the work and is ready to absorb it. Hélène Fauquet's sculptures explore shells and the questions their forms raise. The genesis of these sculptures rests on the gesture of obliterating her photographs with a three-dimensional object - the shell. Glamorously framed, these objects give off the shimmering appeal of opaline niches. The frames go beyond their function as mere devices of presentation to become a threshold toward a sensitive and symbolic space. Her work is concerned with the residues of photography and the movement of images. In her recent exhibition Phenomena at the Kunsthaus Glarus in Switzerland, she develops a phenomenological approach to perception and reflects on the way information is stored.
