Henry Taylor. Where thoughts provoke

The Musée national Picasso-Paris will present an exhibition devoted to Henry Taylor, one of the major figures of contemporary American painting. This exhibition, conceived together with the artist himself, will embrace the whole of his artistic trajectory while continuing the exploration of the reception of Pablo Picasso on the American scene — following the exhibitions devoted to Faith Ringgold (2023), Jackson Pollock (2024) and Philip Guston (2025), and preceding the major retrospective devoted to the Harlem Renaissance movement (spring 2027). The exhibition, spread over two floors and thirteen rooms, brings together around a hundred works — paintings, sculptures, installations — through which Henry Taylor explores the richness and complexity of the human experience. Whether depicting friends, relatives, anonymous individuals or public figures, his compositions offer a vivid and deeply human vision of our times. Taylor creates an original, expressive and plastic body of work, powerful in its scope - he weaves visual narratives that intertwine individual trajectories and collective realities, combining personal experiences, shared memory and dialogues with art history. His reinterpretations of inspiring works of art, notably those of David Hammons, Philip Guston or Pablo Picasso, show how Taylor draws on the past to reinvent the present. Henry Taylor has been the subject of numerous exhibitions in the United States and abroad, including a large-scale retrospective at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles in 2022, followed by one at the Whitney Museum in New York in 2023. His works are held in leading public collections, notably at the Studio Museum in Harlem in New-York, the MET and the MoMA. This exhibition at the Musée national Picasso-Paris is the artist's first retrospective in France. The exhibition has received the exclusive support of Louis Vuitton.
