For the 2026 European Heritage Days, the Maison de Balzac welcomes you throughout the day on 19 and 20 September. For the Journées Européennes du Patrimoine, come rediscover the Maison de Balzac and attend two meetings devoted to literary news. Saturday 19 September 2026 Judith Lyon-Caen will present «Balzac nous appartient. Une histoire politique de la transmission littéraire», published by éditions CNRS. A fascinating work that studies the appropriation of the writer by one and all, for better and for worse, for above all, Balzac is polymorphous. Realist, visionary, mystic, positivist… Balzac the revolutionary writer, Balzac the conservative writer, the Balzac of Victor Hugo or that of Barbey d'Aurevilly…. Find out more Sunday 20 September 2026 Jean-Claude Caron on smells and scents in Balzac's work, with his book «Le nez de Balzac, suivi de Odorama balzacien», published by éditions Champ Vallon. The historian has agreed to present his richly detailed book, which draws on "La Comédie humaine", but also on Balzac's correspondence and the accounts of those around him. The author also discusses the smells of Balzac's own body. Thus, Balzac's nose has its rightful place, and Jean-Claude Caron discusses, in parallel, that of his characters.
