The musée des Arts décoratifs presents an unprecedented exhibition on the evolution of dress at the Thai court, featuring pieces from the royal collection. Bringing together more than a hundred exceptional garments and accessories, the exhibition showcases the royal wardrobes, highlighting the eight formats of traditional Thai costumes designed by Sa Majesté la reine Sirikit in collaboration with a team of historians and local Thai designers. Furthermore, the exhibition sheds light on the unique history of cultural and artistic dialogue, marked by more than thirty years of collaboration between Sa Majesté la reine Sirikit and the fashion designer Pierre Balmain, later continued with the houses Balmain and Lesage. This exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Queen Sirikit Museum of Textile (Musée des textiles de la Reine Sirikit) in Thailand and SACIT (Sustainable Art and Craft Institute of Thailand, Institut durable et artisanal de Thaïlande). The exhibition is part of the celebrations marking the 340th anniversary of the first diplomatic relations and the 170th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between France and Thailand. Since the 1960s, reine Sirikit has maintained close ties with major French and European fashion houses. Passionate about fashion, she played a central role in modernizing court dress, presenting her creations during official trips with roi Rama IX. With the help of Pierre Balmain, she reinvented Thai royal elegance, preserving its heritage while ensuring its international appeal. This exhibition presents a selection of pieces from the wardrobes of the royal family. It offers a unique glimpse into the rich Thai artisanal tradition in the fields of textiles, jewelry, and accessories. Committed to the preservation of traditions, reine Sirikit worked tirelessly to safeguard her country's textile arts and craftsmanship, which led to the creation of the Fondation SUPPORT. Today, the Foundation is under the patronage of reine Suthida, who continues to champion and develop its mission, while her granddaughter, princesse Sirivannavari, carries on this legacy as a fashion designer, supporting the young generation of Thai designers. She encourages contemporary innovation and promotes the use of traditional textiles. This presentation invites visitors to discover the exceptional diversity and beauty of Thai silk fabrics and court costumes, witnesses to a unique family and cultural history, as well as to the fruitful exchanges between France and Thailand.
