« Le temps d’une image » — Rencontre à la MEP avec Laurent Mauvignier, écrivain

The MEP presents "Le temps d'une image," a new series of encounters held every first Thursday of the month starting in September. Hosted by journalist Arnaud Laporte, this event invites a personality to choose an image that accompanies them, troubles them, or nourishes their imagination, and to unfold its many resonances over a forty-five minute conversation. For this first edition, writer Laurent Mauvignier has chosen Tereska (1948), one of the most famous portraits by David Seymour (Chim). Taken in a home for children traumatized by the Second World War, this photograph of a little girl with a lost gaze has become an emblematic image of the wounds of childhood and the memory of conflicts. Author of a major body of work and winner of the 2025 prix Goncourt, Laurent Mauvignier has spent more than twenty-five years exploring questions of memory, violence, and intimacy. This image, which he says he knows "by heart" and which has "haunted" him for a long time, will be the starting point for a conversation with Arnaud Laporte. The encounter will be followed by an exchange with the audience.
