As part of the exhibition "Métamorphoses, les chapeaux de Maison Michel", the Galerie du 19M is partnering with Souffle Collectif to present MOIRE, a brand-new performance with Panamanian artist Ana Elena Tejera and violinist Sylvain Rabourdin, accompanied by guest musicians. The programme Conceived in resonance with the exhibition Métamorphoses, les chapeaux de Maison Michel, MOIRE explores whirling, repetition and the forms born of these movements. Present in many dances and ritual practices, notably in the Sufi tradition of the whirling dervishes, circular movement can alter the experience of time and open onto other states of consciousness. Ana Elena Tejera's whirling enters into dialogue with live music made of motifs, pulsations and repetitions. MOIRE questions what covers, protects, reveals and transforms the body, much like the hat: it shifts the silhouette, extends gestures and brings forth new presences. Between movement, sound and matter, the performance composes a body in constant transformation. Appearances, circulations and disappearances follow one another, tracing the stages of a metamorphosis.
