A key figure of international contemporary art, Annette Messager is showing at the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature for the first time. A bestiary of human passionsMore than 80 works are deployed across some fifteen rooms, following a thematic itinerary (amorous transports, capture and captivity, animal blood, tamed savagery…) in which major installations, iconic works and previously unseen pieces engage in dialogue with the museum's collections. An unprecedented angle: animality as a key to readingFor the first time, Annette Messager's work is approached through the lens of animality. Although a constant feature of her work since the 1970s, the animal figure had never before been the subject of such an exploration. The animal world becomes a mirror of human passions and drives: they resemble us, parody us, reveal us. An international trajectoryWinner of the Golden Lion at the Biennale de Venise in 2005 and the Praemium Imperiale in 2016, Annette Messager has been the subject of major exhibitions at the world's leading institutions: MoMA in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Hayward Gallery in London, the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo and the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. This exhibition at the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature is part of this worldwide recognition, offering the artist one of the most singular settings imaginable.
