The exhibition “Ashkhar” by Sonya Orfalian explores, through a pictorial body of work nourished by Armenian culture and the experience of the diaspora, the universal themes of exile, migration, belonging and one's relationship to the world. The exhibition is organised by the cultural association Les Inimaginaires, Paris. Opening reception in the presence of the artist on Tuesday 6 October 2026, from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm. “Ashkhar”, an Armenian word meaning “world”, but which can also evoke the universe, the earth or the country. A visual artist, writer and translator of Armenian origin, Sonya Orfalian was born in Libya in 1958, into a family of Armenian refugees. Based in Rome since the 1970s, she has developed a body of work that reinterprets Armenian cultural traditions and the experience of the diaspora in a contemporary way, while opening up a universal reflection on migration, exile and belonging. Sonya Orfalian is also the author of tales, books devoted to Armenian cuisine, as well as collections of testimonies by Armenian children, notably published by éditions Gallimard. Presented at the Maison de la Vie Associative et Citoyenne of the 14th arrondissement of Paris, her exhibition is entitled “Ashkhar”. This title reflects the artist's deeply humanist approach. For this first presentation in Paris, ten paintings will be shown to the public. The exhibition is organised by the cultural association Les Inimaginaires, Paris 14th.
