AAA_chan Exhibition Paris 2026 : Les Treize Nuits

For her first Parisian exhibition, the Japanese artist AAA_chan revisits thirteen classic shunga scenes — including a nod to Hokusai's famous Rêve de la femme du pêcheur — through playful and tender cats. A self-taught Japanese artist, AAA_chan pays homage to shunga — those ukiyo-e prints dedicated to love — by reinterpreting classic scenes through playful and tender cats, in her own pictorial style. For her first solo exhibition in Paris, she presents « Les Treize Nuits »: thirteen original works, painted on hanging scrolls (kakejiku) and on framed canvases. This number carries a double meaning: thirteen as the number of works on display, but also as a nod to a Japanese legend according to which the cat — absent from the twelve signs of the traditional zodiac — is in fact the thirteenth, forgotten by history. Each work revisits a love scene drawn from ancient shunga, sometimes tender, sometimes mischievous, always imbued with modesty and humor; some pieces even engage in dialogue with emblematic masterpieces of ukiyo-e, such as a mischievous nod to Hokusai's Rêve de la femme du pêcheur, where the octopus becomes a squid and the diving woman, a playful she-cat. The exhibition also welcomes a guest work from a patron of the artist. A resolutely purple and gold universe, between Japanese tradition and contemporary energy.
