Third installment of the project initiated by the collective Lune rougissante, Đoàn tụ - Mémoires vietnamiennes brings together several generations of artists from the Vietnamese diaspora in France. This community was formed through successive waves of exile following the Indochina War (1946-1954), then the American War in Vietnam (1955-1975), from repatriates of the CAFI and Eurasians of the FOEFI to boat people refugees and more recent migrations. Upon their arrival, families were housed in isolated locations or dispersed across French territory. Despite these policies of invisibilization, Vietnamese presences took root through pagodas, restaurants, shops, and community spaces. Drawing on memories, investigations, and sometimes imagined genealogies, the artists explore a Vietnamese identity received as inheritance, shaped by war, exile, and transmission. Their works probe the ruptures within collective narratives and establish passages between Vietnam, its diasporas, and the generations born in France. Meaning "reunion" in Vietnamese, Đoàn tụ here designates the possibility of recognizing oneself among relatives still unknown. For its first program entirely devoted to the diasporic community, Galerie Bao expands the contours of Vietnam to those who carry its memory from a distance. Between lived experiences, ancestral histories, and reinvented filiations, the exhibition composes a collective narrative, plural and continually transformed.
